Book Report #6 - Crave: Tales of Lust, Love and Longing
Crave: Tales of Lust, Love and Longing
by Catherine Lundoff
Publisher: Lethe Press

It's been almost two years since I reported on a book for this blog. It's nice to return to it with some lesbian erotica.

Read any lately? Are you seeing the same stuff over and over again? Has it gotten to the point where you can describe the characters, explain the plot and call the ending before you've even read the story? Is your lesbian erotica a bit like meatloaf - filling, but not very exciting? Could your entrees use some cayenne? That will wake you up! Or, better yet, just read Crave: Tales of Lust, Love and Longing by Catherine Lundoff.

Strong plots, well developed characters, imaginative story lines, creative endings - all of these make for good fiction and you will find all of these in Crave. Catherine offers 15 of her lesbian erotic tales that are so varied, I can honestly say there is something for everyone.

My personality is the type that seeks a bit of everything. I get bored easy, so I need creative stimulus to keep my eyes open. A book like Catherine's, where the stories are so different from each other, prevents me falling asleep.

What were some of my favorites? "Leader of the Pack." The imagery of this werewolf tale is intensely beautiful as we listen to the narrator pledge her allegiance to her lover the alpha. "Blind Faith." We witness what happens when Linda learns her lover Janet will eventually lose her sight. Then there's the disturbing, but in a well written way, "Emily Says," where Stacia's lover descends into a psychotic train wreck. The tone of the story is even a bit frightening, suitable for inclusion in a book of terror. Then there were some that got me really hot, because not only were they well written, but just plain kinky too. Kinky is good. Like "Anonymous." The title gives you a clue, and the story will get you wet. Also, "Thursdays at McKinney's" where we get to peek into the perverted fantasy of a bi-curious mind. And then there's "An Evening in Esteli," an example of Catherine's incredible ability to take you on a complete journey within the confines of a short story. She does it better than some can do with an entire novel.

It is inaccurate to call this collection "hot lesbian erotica." It cheapens the book in some way to reduce it to that. These are more than 15 hot stories. These are beautifully crafted and varied stories that entertain and make you think - and that also get you hot.

For me, that's the best type of erotica, lesbian or otherwise.
