Life on my quasi book tour goes ever onward. So far, I've done 4 readings from 'Crave,' the two at WisCon being the best attended (and the best sales), and one chat. Next up, I'm trading blog reviews with another author. Then it's off to Convergence for panels not related to the book, then maybe guest speaking at the Loft. This will be followed by Diversicon, then the NYC reading, then a possible reading with some other authors here in town if we can work out the logistics. After that it's off to Atlanta for some as yet unspecified appearance at something, hopefully Gaylaxicon and maybe a local bookstore. I might do a joint reading in Chicago if I can get things to work out with another author.
I expect that much of this will be cool and fun and I'll meet new people and hopefully sell a few books. Which doesn't make it other than a somewhat expense slog from this vantage point, alas. I wish there was a magic formula for doing outreach for small press books but if there is no one's sharing. But I'm still looking forward to many parts of it so I must not be too discouraged.
My MySpace project is continuing along; I'm working on adding more bookstores and more local organizations in hopes that this will eventually, somehow, eventually translate to greater readership and more sales. I'm not clear on how or if this will work but I'm hoping for the best. And on the plus side, it's kind of fun to be able to include Nicola Griffith and Nina Hagen among my imaginary friends.
Other than this, I have a day job interview on Tuesday and am still wrestling my way through the fantasy story due very soon now. Hoping today's the charm on that. Now back to work...
