NY so far

The trip in was remarkably efficient and stress-free and we find the hotel kind of charming if a tad impractical. But purty and with really nice staff.
Yesterday was spent doing local shopping in Park Slope. The haul thus far: a t-shirt featuring a rat hugging a pigeon in front of the skyline of Brooklyn, courtesy of Brooklyn Industries (I think you have to grow up here to find this utterly hilarious but I'm not sure); fabulously impractical beaded black gloves on sale from Lucia to tide me over since I neglected to transfer gloves into this coat; the utterly awesome Brooklyn Girls Lesbian Pulp calendar plus charming pink and black argyle socks for Jana since her socks somehow didn't get packed either - yay for Guvnor's Vintage for actually selling socks among other nifty things. There was also tea and treats at Trois Pommes, followed eventually by dinner at Palo Santo, which still has the amazing baked fish I remember from our last trip.

Today, we're off to see "The King's Speech" for Mom's birthday, followed by dinner with friends. Tomorrow, we're thinking MOMA and the Village, but we'll see how that goes. It's kind of tricky juggling a book release with a trip, not much sleep and a bunch of other tasks for the new books, like actually writing and editing them. We did come up with a title and an outline for the new collection over tea, though. Now I just have to finish the title story - more on that as it progresses. So having fun, just disorganized and groggy.

At some point in the next few days, there'll be a trip to the Museum of Natural History and the Planetarium. Plus a few other things. Our housesitter says her plan to seduce our cats' affections is proceeding apace so we'll have to devise a plan to win them back. Now to actually leave the hotel in quest of lunch.
