Thanksgiving and all that...
Nov. 25th, 2010 10:54 amI'm spending a splendidly quiet day at home with my gal and our kitties. I've made fresh cranberry sauce with walnuts and a sugar-free (substituting spices and succanat) pumpkin pie. And Shu has taught himself to play fetch with my assistance, which has made for an exciting and repetitive morning. Later on today, I'll bake up the game hens and Jana will make yams and apples. I'm planning on spending some of the intervening time reading Jane Austen's Letters (the Deirdre Le Faye Folio Society edition that Jana got me last year) and drinking good tea. I've also got the latest installment of Liz William's Garnet Park serial to look forward to. Tomorrow, I have to be productive, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Amongst the things that I have to be grateful for: Jana, friends and family (chosen and birth), the kittehs, more or less good health, community, a fairly solid little house, job continuity and a couple of completed books to show for this year. :-)
I thought I'd borrow something from someone else's blog and send out a thank you to some of my current publishers and some of the indie bookstores which sell my books. Huge thanks to all of you and here's to a terrific season for indie presses and bookstores:
Lethe Press - publisher of my collections Crave and Night's Kiss as well as the first anthology that I edited, Haunted Hearths and Sapphic Shades: Lesbian Ghost Stories. I've also got stories in So Fey: Queer Fairy Fiction, Time Well Bent: Queer Alternate History and Periphery: Erotic Lesbian Futures. Check out the site for fiction by a bunch of different terrific authors, all available in print, ebook and sundry other formats.
Drollerie Press - publisher of Hellebore and Rue: Tales of Queer Women and Magic, the forthcoming anthology edited by JoSelle Vanderhooft and myself as well as lots of other interesting titles.
Tales of the Unanticipated Magazine - publisher of my novella "The Eqyptian Cat" as well as an interview with poet Bryan Thao Worra that I did about 2 years back. TOTU publishes a lot of quirky stories that are well worth reading.
Cleis Press - publisher of Best Lesbian Romance 2011, Best Lesbian Erotica 2011 and Lesbian Lust. I also have stories in BLR 2009 and BLE 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2008, Girl Crazy, Zaftig, Erotic Travel Tales 2 and Best Lesbian Bondage Erotica.
Sam's Dot Publishing - publisher of Northern Lights: 20 MinnSpec Tales, the great local writer's antho put together by Michael Merriam as well as other titles by my pals JoSelle, Dana and Bryan Thao Worra, among others.
Regal Crest - publisher of Women In Uniform, which includes my story "Tree Hugger." An excellent small queer press which primarily puts out lesbian romance but also has books in other genres.
A sampling of indie bookstores:
True Colors Bookstore - the Twin Cities own feminist/LGBT bookstore. Good selection and could really use your shopping dollars this holiday season.
DreamHaven Books, Comics and Art - Pretty much what it says. Great bookstore for browsing and buying.
Room of One's Own - Madison's great feminist/multi-cultural/LGBT bookstore
Outwrite Bookstore and Coffeehouse - Atlanta's GLBT store
Charis Books and More - Atlanta's fab feminist bookstore
Now Voyager - Ptown's charming GLBT bookstore
The Mercantile in Amherst and Northhampton, MA - gifts and books and glorious things
Now off to go drink my tea. Here's wishing everyone a pleasant and mellow holiday or at least a day off.

Date: 2010-11-26 03:30 am (UTC)Hope you had a fine day. I'm in a tryptophan daze, thankful for many things, including having my refrigerator more or less to myself again, with all leftovers distributed or frozen.
