We did catch The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus the other night. I found it to be an amazing mess and not in a good way. It's basically the same storyline as Gilliam's Baron Munchausen, which I enjoyed, but minus the charming points and moments of coherence of the later. The humor in Imaginarium attempts to be Pythonesque but ends up running the gamut from coming across as racist and transphobic to just plain pointless. And it goes on...and on...and on. Not recommended.

Got my contrib copies of Best New Erotica Volume 9 yesterday. Edit Maxim Jakubowski picked my story  "Just Another Girl on the Train" from Dirty Girls for this one. The volume is the usual allstar lineup; he always gets an interesting range of stories.

John Rezmerski, poet extraordinaire, will be reading his work at DreamHaven Books and Comics on 38th Street in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 15 at 6:30. This is highly recommended (and not just because he officiated at our wedding). Rez writes terrific poetry, much of it sf/f themed and he's always fun to listen to.

Almost done with the drafts for the new anthology call and will announce that officially soon. I also finished the draft of my wedding post, due next week and have been poking at both Silver Moon and ongoing fiction. Hoping to get in a big burst of writing energy over the upcoming three day weekend. In the meantime, mostly wishing I hurt less and that day job was less hectic, but can't have everything I suppose.

Ooh! Awesome reason to buy the BNE9 when it comes out. Thank you for mentioning this, I might not have made a point to get it right away otherwise.

Also, re: Imaginarium. I had really high hopes but all I'm hearing is not-so-good, to the point where I'll likely just buy it on blu-ray and leave it at that. Thanks for the warning.

[Aiiee! Premature comment submission! ETA: Here's to oodles of uninterrupted, comfortable writing time :) ]

Why, thank you! :-) The beauty of BNE is that it's so huge, there's bound to be something you like in it. And thanks muchly for the well wishes on writing time and less ouchiness. I need it.
Re: Imaginarium. Yeah, I was hoping too. Weird I can handle. Icky and pointless, not so much. I was sorry that Ledger's last movie was such a dud. I wasn't a huge fan but I enjoyed watching him in a few films, such as "Casanova." I think we're trying for "Young Victoria" next - here's hoping it's better.
Are you holding up okay, apart from all this?

I tend to stick to the queer anthologies, so it was good to hear about this. And you're right, it's a good one, so I can't say I mind buying it, not one bit :)

As for movies - yikes, it just occurred to me that unless someone's reviewing something at me, I'm really not even sure what's playing. Holmes happened because we happened to be in L.A. and you really can't avoid all the billboards. But other than that? Huh. Maybe I'll take myself to a movie this weekend - I'll be mostly on my own and it's been a while.

... and thanks for asking :) I'm shell-shocked about the variety and quantity of things coming at me from all sides right now, but yeah, holding up. Definitely :)

"Young Victoria," you say? I shall consider it!

Good to hear! Hope the good parts continue and gradually subsume the others.
I found Holmes to be pretty meh, but you might like it more than I did.

I think maybe I did like it more than you did. I wrote about it here (http://urlgirl.livejournal.com/200235.html). I get excited easily though, and I wasn't super-familiar with the books, at least not beyond rushed teenaged readings. I moved on to sci-fi/fantasy sometime around 17 years old and didn't look back for many years.
