Lovely, lovely review...

and a probable sale, though we're still discussing the issue of reprints on the latter. I'll post when that gets resolved.
This very morning, the wonderful and talented Lisabet Sarai has seen fit to say terribly flattering things about Night's Kiss. I have to say that I am very honored to have my talented peers appreciate my work. It's a kind of intense fluttery feeling that I don't get alot. So a huge shoutout to Lisabet and Donna George Storey and Jean Roberta to say THANK YOU for your reviews of the current version of NK! I love your work and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed mine. :-D

And on a related side note, a number of years back I wrote a story that I hoped to place in an anthology to be edited by Pat Califia (pre-Patrick, so this dates it a bit). I figured I had to try something that hadn't been tried a zillion times so I came up with a story about knife play. Then I set it in Victorian London and had my protag, who can be read as either very butch or trannie, depending on perspective, hunt Jack the Ripper. I remember thinking as I popped it in the envelope (pre-email subs, even), "Wow, I hope this gets accepted for this antho because I'm never going to be able to sell it elsewhere."

As it happened, the antho vanished as they do from time to time and I let the story sit for a bit. The story,"An Incident in Whitechapel," appeared in the first version of Night's Kiss, then got reprinted in Best Lesbian Erotica 2005, then again in Best Lesbian Bondage Erotica. It has since cropped up in several reviews as a favorite tale. So there we have it: the value of authorial persistence at work. V. pleased.

Terrific review, and well-deserved!

Thank you! Lisabet's not an easy one to impress so I'm pretty excited about it. :-D

Fantastic review! I've been off erotica for some time, but I think I'll have to pick this up and give it a go again. Available at WisCon, I'm hoping?

Thank you! :-D
Book at WisCon - it should be. I'll bring along an extra copy or two just in case my dealer's room arrangement falls through.
Let's try for some meal or other while we're there too.

That would be great. It's going to be odd being at WisCon by myself for the first time, but I'm quite excited (and nervous) about being a first-time panelist, and moderator, to boot!

Talk about pushing your limits... but since I learned to sing karaoke in public this year, I think I can do this. *g*

Go you! :-)
We'll be there Friday afternoon and generally the assembled clans go forth to dinner somewhere on State Street shortly after the Gathering. I think my first programming item is at 9PM on Friday. Hotel room's in my name so we're readily findable.

As well you should be. Great review!

The especially cool thing about your Whitechapel story (IMO - I can't speak for any of the editors who accepted it) is that it involves BDSM as a kind of sympathetic magic - via knifeplay, your Ripper-hunter manages to stop the killings of poor women who walk the gaslit streets of London because they don't have safer options. So the reader gets sexual intensity AND a happy ending. This might be the secret of its appeal.

Could well be. :-)
I'll admit to secretly thinking that it's one of the pieces that I would be happ(ier) rewriting a few more times, it's been out in the world a bit too long for that. It's nice that others disagree with me on that. :-)

Me, too, not surprisingly.
