Misc. items of interest

at least if you live here or nearby.

Acclaimed lesbian performance/comedy/theater troup Split Britches is in town this weekend. They're at Open Eye Theater tonight and tomorrow night - http://www.openeyetheatre.org/display.php?active=69

Trying to save Pi - As you may or may not know, Pi Bar and Restaurant (http://www.pibarandrestaurant.com/), the South Minneapple's beloved queer women's/everyone's dancing/performance/drinking/socializing space is in mortal danger of closing up shop. Seems the mortgage payments ballooned and they need to come up with a lot of cash quickly. The plan is that they will close on Nov. 15th while they work out financing details. If those get sorted out, they'll reopen shortly thereafter. If not, no more Pi. Small donations and eating and drinking there will help a bunch, as of course, will large donations sent to:
Pi Bar
2532 25th Ave S
Minneapolis, MN 55406

And speaking of the 15th, local review mag Rain Taxi is bringing the awesome Samuel Delany to the Walker next weekend - Saturday, Nov.15th at 2 P.M. - http://www.raintaxi.com/readings/
I had a writing residency with Chip Delany a few years back and can vouch for the fact that it will be a fascinating talk. Highly recommended. :-)

Delany news: how awesome, both the upcoming reading, and the former writing residency! How I wish I could have either experience!

The writing residency was actually kind of out of the blue. I had applied for it, hadn't heard anything, moved up to Minneapolis and pretty much forgot about it. A month after I got up here, the acceptance letter which had been lost in the mail turned up. I had a month to get everything together to go to Florida for the residency. Crazy times. :-)
Moral of the story being you just never know.
