Jumbly post Mayday stuff

We ended up with 14 for brunch, many of whom also went to the parade. It was lots of fun though quite late as usual so we missed the ritual so we could go hear [profile] rachelkb read down at the Smitten Kitten.
[profile] evilroygato was both delightful and useful. She and my beloved got to be very butch and mount the microwave on the kitchen wall as yet another step forward in the endless kitchen remodel. Someday, I will have a stove in the my kitchen again! (You can't see it, but I'm waving a bunch of grimy radishes over it as it sits in the living room :-).
All in all, a good weekend, though quite low on writing time.
I'm up to my eyeballs in book publicity - ads, announcements, reading scheduling, release party planning, etc. Urgh.
Oh yeah, and I have a WisCon schedule.Yay!

Title: Balancing Creativity And The Day Job
"Unfortunately, most of us can't support ourselves with our prose, nor do we have patrons who pay our bills for us. So how do you cram a nine-to-five job, a commute, exercise, writing, a personal life, errands, chores, entertainment, and adequate sleep into a twenty-four hour day without totally losing your mind? Hey, I want a transcript of the Writing/Day Job one.

Last year, there were people blogging from the audience at the panels, which was a trifle disconcerting. I'll try and keep some notes but suspect some enterprising morning person will end up doing it for me. I will pass on any great tips, of course. :-)

[identity profile] catherineldf.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh and let me know what goes on at S&S (I assume you're going?). I trust you and Jill to have the best take on it. :-)

[identity profile] eroticjames.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Not this year. I'm going to try again for next year...every other year seems too be a good one.

[identity profile] mroctober.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too.

[identity profile] catherineldf.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Can we talk you into Gaylaxicon? It'll be fun. :-)

[identity profile] eroticjames.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Epicon is actually going to be in my neighborhood in 2009...

Getting to DC in October might a bit of a bitch, since I'll have just done the last weekend in Sept at YaoiCon. Where's it supposed to be 2009?

[identity profile] eroticjames.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Egads...looked it up Minniapolis. At least DC is 1/2 ass warm around that time.

[identity profile] catherineldf.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's balmy in October. Really. Hardly gets below freezing until the end of the month. :-)

There is currently a thread on the Erotic Readers & Writers list on how to juggle it all - it's a popular topic. (I read on the bus to & from work - wouldn't work for everyone.) Here's a possible solution: Be a writing Hermit (kick out your S.O.s & live alone) - definitely wouldn't work for most people. My WisCon schedule arrived too. I'm excited, but the rest of the local Pride Week committee is not thrilled that I'll be away just before the event. Here is a workshop I would like to see: how to recruit fresh blood to replace oneself on committees. :)

[identity profile] catherineldf.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's a conference unto itself. :-)

[identity profile] jordan-c-price.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, I'll get to meet you!

This is my first panel, ever. So of course I'm wondering, "Am I really anyone to talk about how to balance the day job and the writing? I'm always so stressed out."

See you there ;-)

[identity profile] catherineldf.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully we'll come up with the magic cure for writerly stress. Just in time to fix mine too. :-)
And do come to the party and the reading as well - I'm expecting it all to be lots of fun. Except for the stressful parts...

I had to stop at "Mount the Microwave"

ROFL. What?!!! I think it's my brain...

[identity profile] catherineldf.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, trust me. It's your brain. How was Georgia?

[identity profile] thaedeus.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Smile.

No Georgia yet. Probably June 5th to 12 or so. We already have enough new material
for the album (DNA). Never did release the first one (Eternal) because Dace didn't
like the tape noise (he did everything on 4-track cassette until last fall).

The album cover is hot (well as far as negative old guys goes). And by negative
I mean photographically.

I will post it on LJ.

Yowza! So it is. :-)

OK, now I AM sorry I'm not going to Wiscon this year!!!

[identity profile] tambyrd.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Great topic and party -- hope to hear more at another con, or next year ...

I'm sorry you're not going to make it, and even sorrier to hear about all the stress in your lives. I hope things improve greatly and very soon.
I'll be at CONvergence and 4th Street this year too so maybe I'll see/meet you at once of them.
