Mothers, in general, see post-operation

So normal people's mothers get the phones turned on in their rooms when they go into the hospital for a week or so, right? I'm just checking so I have a standard to go by. :-(
Word on Monday says the hip replacement surgery went well so that's something.

Uh...let's see...I've always been able to call my father-in-law's room during his various surgeries. The nurse called me when he got out of his transplant surgery. Similar procedure was followed with my mother-in-law's breast cancer surgery.

But...when my father broke his back, requiring several days stay in the hospital, he and my mother kinda, oh, forgot to call me. At, well, any point. Fortunately, I called them at home after he was home. Thus, I learned he hadn't been spending the last few days golfing. Likewise for the gallbladder situation. Fortunately, my brother just happened to be home when my father needed an emergency appendectomy. Otherwise, I might never have known...

NOW that's some memory lapse. I'd have thought to mention a broken back to someone at some point. Fun with families. :-(

I'm not sure it would occur to my mother, although my dad would take care of it. But my mother would be likely not to hear it ring, anyway.

Could be she just had too much else on her mind. Plus reaching for phone just after a hip replacement might not be a fun thing.

Sending best wishes to you all.

No, she's just being a pain in the butt, I suspect. But there's nothing I can do about it and the hospital says she's doing okay so we'll just take their words for it. Oiy.

Hmmm. MY mother wouldn't do it, I'd imagine...does it cost extra?? She'd have Bob call me from the lobby pay phone.

Ah. My mom needs a "Bob."
And thanks for the perspective. :-)
