One of those experiences was with a regular run of the mill fan-run con (and was likely a problem w/ the individual, rather than the con, but it was hard for me to tell where the line was. I was 'dropped' off the regular pro invite list soon thereafter so it looked like retaliation and probably was). But yeah, sexual harassment and similar crap happens at the queer-run events, publishing and so forth, too, unfortunately.

Ageism is definitely a thing in the field as a whole, but I think the effects are disproportionate and uneven, so it's not always a clear cut "We only want young people" ala IT startups and such. Instead, we get a "We only want established pros with a certain kind of track record" vs. "We only want the up and omings who have new things to say," sometimes at the same con or publishing lineup. It's weirdly fascinating!

But thanks for the congrats! We keep on keeping on and every now and again, a cool and splendid thing happens. Hope there's some headed your way, too!
